Meet the Player: Baptiste Masotti

Baptiste Masotti’s rise through the ranks of squash is a testament to his drive, passion, and electric playing style. From his humble beginnings, introduced to squash by his dad, to becoming a top player in the world, his journey is one to inspire.

We caught up with Baptiste to dive his game, his inspirations, and what keeps him focused.

1. How did you first discover squash?
"I discovered squash with my dad when I was young. He was an amateur player, and I followed him to tournaments. But I wasn’t really doing squash at the time—I just loved watching it."

2. Who’s your biggest squash inspiration?
"Greg Gaultier, for his dedication and the work he put in."

3. Do you have a nickname? If yes, how did it come about?
"I don’t really have a nickname, but sometimes they call me ‘Maserati’ on the camera because I play fast!"

4. Describe your playing style in 3 words.
"Offensive, Passion, Electric."

5. Favourite shot and why?
"My favourite shot is the Mizuki, inspired by Hisham Ashour. I was a big fan of him when I was young."

6. Most memorable moment on court?
"Playing Paul Coll in the semis of the New Zealand Open was a memorable moment for me."

7. If you weren’t playing squash, what sport would you be doing?
"Football, for sure. I was a football player for many years before I started playing squash."

8. What’s your go-to pre-match snack (be honest!)?
"I always have my pasta and chicken before my match—nothing crazy, just what works for me."

9. Best post-match meal?
"Depends on the result! If I lose, pizza for sure. If I win, I stick to my usual meals that work for me."

10. What’s something in your squash bag that shouldn’t be there?
"Maybe a pack of playing cards. I always have them with me."

11. One fun fact people might not know about you?
"I started playing squash at 12 years old!"
