The Gates Have Closed

The call went out.
And the arena filled.

The North Wales Open 2026 is now officially full.
Ninety-six players have entered.
No late entries. No spare places. No quiet corners of the draw.

From 9am on Saturday, February 21st, the courts at Canolfan Brailsford, Bangor University become something else entirely.
Three wall-backed courts with a balcony above.
One glass-backed show court with seated viewing.
An arena carved into North Wales, set by the mountains of Eryri.

Over two days, 148 matches will be played.
No exhibitions. No fillers.
The kind of matches that send people straight back on court five minutes after they’ve sworn they’re finished.

They are coming from 24 different clubs, from Caernarfon to Bedford, Winchester to Whitby, Bangor to Wigan, Ynys Môn to Merthyr — and even further afield.
Local pride meets travelling ambition.
Every grade contains someone who’s driven too far to lose politely.

The draw is built for pressure.
11 MONRAD grades — nine groups of eight players and two of twelve — designed to create the closest matches possible.
In some grades, the difference between players is under 15% on SquashLevels.

No warm-ups disguised as matches.
No hiding places.

And what they’re playing for is simple:
1st, 2nd and 3rd in every grade.
Trophies. Prizes.
And the right to say “I won at the North Wales Open.”

Last year proved it could work.
This year proves it belongs.
More players. More grades. Double the courts.
Support from across the UK.

Between matches, it will be squash heaven:
courts everywhere, a tournament shop on site,
goodie bags for every competitor,
and an atmosphere that only happens when nobody is there by accident.

The draw is live.
The schedule is live.
The countdown has started.

Finals day arrives on Sunday.
And if you like your squash loud —
you’re invited.

This isn’t just a tournament.
This is North Wales squash, standing on business.
